Where Ocean Meets Sky.
The allure of a celestial ikigai. A poem.
Gathering the strength to exhale, the weather wintry and dry,
I watch the fog leave my lips, carrying words I let slip by.
Gloves cling tightly to my sweaty hands, again I sigh,
As silence lingers, my sole company the saffron flickering streetlight.
I wonder where does the ocean meet the sky?
Do they waltz around the zenith, kissing as horizons pass by?
Does their love ebb when the moon heaves the sunless cloth of night,
Or is it sempiternal, unwavering thereby?
Yet what of the how and the why, what I fail to espy?
Where does the ocean meet the sky?
Will the eventide answer the vespers we credulously scry,
Where blue masquerades in the benediction of salt and light?
The wind confesses, and the waves fondly reply:
“All that I am remains abidingly thine.”
Their lips then dissolve where turquoise and sapphire intertwine.
The moon leans in, attempting to seduce the tide,
And the sea heaves into waves to draw itself nigh.
For each other, they swore to solemnly vie.
Still I wonder: where does the ocean meet the sky?
Perhaps in a dusty corner in the back of my mind,
Guests dressed in black suits and a tie.
The clock ticks backward; I sense time providing an alibi,
Mourning the vows the sea and sky once got to testify.
The day dissolves, letting twilight glide by,
As if the sun’s rays did not just delicately kiss the moonlight,
Whatever the golden-silver, silver-gold might imply,
And what the eclipse attempts to belie—
The allure of a celestial ikigai.
A fragment of the sun clings to the moon, as love that cannot die.
Aim for the stars to reach the moon, but then on which star will the moon rely?
Which will hand the moon some light, cradle it softly when I’m awry?
Right where ocean meets sky,
The moon caresses sunlight,
And death serenades life,
The moth still yearns for a flame so bright,
And in the mist of darkness, I still want to believe that love alone can beautify.
Perhaps there’s still time to do well and try
To realize you are loved, and it’s all gonna be alright.
